Types of frame
For FPV drone beginners, choosing the right frame can start from the following aspects:
1. Determine the Frame Size
• 3-inch frame: Suitable for flying in small areas, highly maneuverable.
• 4-inch frame: Also suitable for small areas, with good agility, ideal for pilots with some experience.
• 5-inch frame: Suitable for outdoor flying, balanced performance, great for racing and freestyle.
• 6-inch and above: Suitable for large open spaces, more stable in flight, ideal for aerial photography.
2. Choose the Frame Type
• True X: Balanced performance with a centralized center of gravity, suitable for beginners; stable and responsive.
• Wide X: Sensitive pitch and smoother roll, ideal for freestyle flying.
• Long X: Smoother pitch and quicker roll, suitable for high-speed racing.
• Ducted (prop guard) frame: High safety, propellers are protected, great for beginners.
3. Consider Frame Materials
• Carbon fiber: High strength and lightweight, the mainstream choice, suitable for 3-inch and larger frames.
• Aluminum alloy: Strong and slightly heavier than carbon fiber, often used for frame connectors.
• Plastic: Suitable for drones under 3 inches, provides some cushioning, and is cost-effective.
4. Other Tips
• Mounting holes: Make sure the frame’s mounting holes for flight controller, motors, and camera are suitable to ease assembly.
• Crash resistance: Choose well-designed frames made of high-grade carbon fiber for better durability.
• Budget: Frame prices range from a few dollars to hundreds. Choose according to your budget.
